Chapter 2: The Plan

Outside, on the main road of the community, there was a parked half-worn pickup truck. Before getting in and starting the engine, Ronan carefully recalled the roads of the Chulawista urban area.

After a few minutes, he drove northeast.

While driving, Ronan also observed the surrounding environment. The community had dense buildings, and many houses looked rundown with graffiti and peeling walls.

On the main road, pedestrians of different ethnicities could be seen - Black, White, and Latino - a typical multicultural neighborhood.

Throughout the journey, Ronan remained vigilant, keeping an eye out for any signs of being followed.

He arrived at the Fifth Street, where the Black community resided. He slowed down the car, passing by the agreed-upon hamburger shop, and saw the person he was supposed to meet through the glass curtain wall.

Ronan didn't rush to go in; instead, he drove around nearby roads for a few laps.

...

At a repair shop close to the Latino community, Padí, the leader of the Morales gang, known as "Big Demon," looked at the six gunmen who came from Mexico and said to the one leading them, "Raúl, wait a little longer. My men are spreading out, and we'll have news soon."

In yesterday's confrontation, he acted suddenly and shot the Hunting Dog. Now, if anyone dared to seek medical help or purchase relevant drugs, regardless of whether it was from black-market doctors or dealers, the Morales gang would find out.

"The boss said we should listen to you here," Raúl showed great respect for Padí, who used to be a valuable member of the group and was sent over for his ability to get things done.

Due to the sheepskin book (referring to the mysterious book), the boss had been calling and scolding him continuously. Padí was furious, saying, "If I can capture the Hunting Dog and his son Ronan alive, I will personally skin the son alive, bone by bone, and feed him to the dogs!"

In yesterday's conflict, several loyal subordinates were shot dead. "I want to skin the son in front of the Hunting Dog, cutting him piece by piece, and then tear out his bones, feeding them to the dogs!"

Raúl replied, "Kill the people, retrieve the things. The rest is up to you."

Padí contemplated and said, "The Hunting Dog has been on the battlefield, and he's a skilled shooter. Get ready with heavy firepower. I'll transfer some elite personnel over."

In truth, he was extremely curious about what was in that sheepskin book that could enrage the boss so much.

His phone rang, and Padí glanced at it before answering in another room.

"It's me, Harvey," a call from Mexico. "The boss wants to know what's going on over there. If it's not going well, he'll replace you!"

Padí hurriedly replied, "I'll retrieve it soon, give me two more days!"

Harvey on the other side knocked on Padí: "Demon, based on our many years of friendship, let me remind you, although the boss hasn't been showing up much in the past two years, he's still the boss!"

Padí replied, "You don't need to worry about things on this side. You're just a big talker. Focus on serving your superstar."

Harvey became displeased: "She is the boss's daughter, the princess of the García Group!" He returned to the main point: "Hurry up and recover the items, kill the person directly, and be cautious about keeping it a secret. The boss said that if you can't handle it, he will send someone else to do it."

Padí said sternly, "I will record the process of killing him and send it to you. I hope you won't vomit while watching."

...

Ronan parked the car, composed himself, and entered the hamburger shop.

"You're late," a middle-aged man with a not-too-dark complexion greeted him. "Jim is waiting for you."

Ronan remembered this person; he was called Booker, an adviser to the Carter gang.

The Morales gang had been relentlessly pursuing him because of the sheepskin book, and the Carter gang wanted to establish themselves genuinely. To survive, Ronan had to rise as a predator.

He wanted to instigate a confrontation between the two rival criminal forces.

One group was the Latino gang, and the other was the Black gang. The former was a traditional force, while the latter had risen recently and was competing for control of the white-market business.

"Lead the way!" Ronan spoke briefly.

Inside the hamburger shop, there was only a burly bald Black man sitting in the corner reading a book. It was Jim Carter, the leader of the Carter gang, whom Ronan was supposed to meet.

The Carter gang had risen in Chulawista over the past year, consolidating various Black forces. It was rumored that they had received support from a force in Los Angeles, and their growth had been rapid. They now held influence in all Black communities in Chulawista and extended their reach northwards into the San Diego area.

Being on the US-Mexico border, there were only a few lucrative businesses, and the Carter gang had their eyes on the white-market controlled by the Morales gang.

A long underground tunnel that could evade the police's scrutiny was of immeasurable value, even if it operated for a short period.

Ronan walked over, pulled out a plastic chair, and sat directly across from Jim with bloodshot eyes and bulging veins. He spoke as if squeezing the words through his teeth, "Jim, you want the tunnel? Fine! I have one condition!"

He displayed intense anger, and his emotions were intense, his voice not loud but filled with boundless hatred. "Help me kill the Morales gang's Big Demon, Padí!"

Jim closed the book in his hand and pressed his hand down, saying, "Calm down, Ronan, be a little calmer."

Ronan's expression was ferocious. "My father was killed by Padí! How can I be calm!"

He was like a savage beast, seeking vengeance. "The Morales gang wanted to take the tunnel for free, and we disagreed. Then that Big Demon, Padí, started shooting!"

Jim had a long and a short thick gold chain around his neck, and each hand wore three rings. He calmly placed his hands on both sides of the book and said again, "Ronan, you have to be calm to take revenge."

Ronan breathed heavily.

Jim let out a soft sigh, "Please accept my sincere condolences. Your father has always been my friend, and my heart is bleeding just like yours."

He said this as if it were genuine.

Ronan firmly grabbed Jim's large black hand and pleaded, "Jim, help me! The tunnel will be yours!"

The real reason why the Morales gang was relentlessly pursuing Ronan and his father in the United States was known to very few. Jim was only aware of the intense conflict between the two sides.

Organized people were not street thugs; they wouldn't resort to drastic measures without sufficient benefits.

Jim said, "You used to be quite reserved."

Ronan's hand on the table tightened, and his knuckles turned white. "My father is dead!"

He was still very emotional. "Jim, that tunnel can avoid border patrol and surveillance areas, and it can secure the Chulawista passage for the Carter gang!"

In Ronan's memory, the Carter gang was ambitious. Jim Carter consolidated various Black forces to make a big move and earn a lot of money.

Jim Carter was considering that there were more than one ways to acquire the tunnel.

Ronan had thought about this before he came. He spoke with resentment, "I have a plan that, once executed, will eliminate the elite forces of the Morales gang! As long as I show up, these people will definitely chase after me due to our recent conflict. Jim, let's join forces and set up an ambush to strike down the best of the Morales gang!"

He clenched his fist and slammed the table. "Jim, with the threat of the Morales gang, even if you have the tunnel, how much conflict will occur? How can you safely transport and deliver goods?"

The rise of a new force always meant overthrowing the rule of the old force. The Carter gang and the Morales gang had clashed several times. Booker, as an adviser, knew well that the white-market business in Chulawista could not tolerate two major forces.

"This is an opportunity." Getting the tunnel and at the same time taking down the elite forces of the Morales gang seemed very advantageous to Booker. "We cannot coexist peacefully with the Morales gang."

The Mexican forces on both sides also competed with each other.

Jim touched the rings on his hand and smiled at Ronan. "That's a good idea. No wonder you are the Hunting Dog's son!" He placed one hand on the back of Ronan's hand. "I also have a condition: you must join Carter Investment Company!"

Ronan wanted to instigate a conflict between the two forces, but he abhorred the white-market business more than anything else. He would have to find a way to destroy that tunnel later!

Jim actually admired Ronan and his son. "Times have changed. There is no future in fighting alone. This time, you have the support of a gang behind you. Can you handle it this way, Ronan? You've been doing business on the border for many years; you have the capability and experience. We have a crucial position open here. Come over, and let's make a fortune together!"

Ronan considered for a moment; he only had ten days. He decided to deal with the current situation first. "As long as you help me seek revenge, everything else can be discussed!"

Jim made his decision without hesitation. "Good! We'll cooperate and seek revenge for your father!"

Among the Black community, there were too few people suitable for major tasks, and others were reluctant to use them easily. Jim knew Ronan well; he had known the Hunting Dog and his son for ten years and had a special connection with Ronan. "Let's make money together! I'm not afraid to tell you that the Morales gang has the support of the García Group in Mexico, and Carter Investment Company also has support. Generous José won't mistreat any of his partners."

Ronan pondered for a moment, "Is José the one who split from Shorty Guzman?"

Jim nodded slightly, "Shorty has tunnels in Mexicali, and José needs a tunnel too! Generous José has established a foothold in Tijuana and urgently needs a passage. As long as Carter gang secures a reliable route, it will become José's main distributor, and dollars will come pouring in!"

Ronan's emotions were no longer as agitated as before, "It's a deal!"

However, Jim asked, "Where is your father? We've been friends for over ten years, and I must see him one last time."

"I was just about to ask for your help." Ronan's eyes turned red again, "Jim, can you find a place to temporarily place my father until I get revenge for him and then bury him?"

Jim waved his hand, "Booker, have Will bring a few reliable brothers over."

As soon as the words fell, a gunshot came from across the street.

Ronan and Jim looked at the glass curtain wall outside.

A limping Black man rushed out of the convenience store with a gun, shouting and telling pedestrians to get out of the way, but his limp made him not very fast.

His luck was also bad; a patrol car happened to arrive, and two officers just got out of the car when the limping man fired his gun.

He then tried to take bystanders as hostages.

The officers did not hesitate to return fire; the sound of gunshots was dense like firecrackers. The limping man was exposed and hit by six or seven bullets, falling into a pool of blood, convulsing.

After emptying a magazine, the officers stopped shooting.

Unfortunately, two innocent Black men who were closer to the limping man were hit by stray bullets.

Any possibility of taking hostages was eliminated.

Ronan and Jim withdrew their gazes and began to discuss setting up the ambush.

With the sheepskin book, Ronan was not afraid that people from the Morales gang wouldn't come looking for him.

He didn't want to die a violent death in ten days; he had to rise as a predator!

After more than ten minutes, Ronan left the hamburger shop and went to the parking lot to get his car.

A police cordon was set up across the street, and many uniformed personnel were busy; three bodies were covered.

Ronan walked slowly, silently activating his spiritual vision.

With a gesture of his left hand, a red halo appeared on the robber's body, and a soul fragment appeared in the Book of Command.

On his way to the parking lot, Ronan deliberately held a soul fragment in his hand and tried it; he found that, like the red halo, he couldn't see the soul fragment without spiritual vision.
